Donna Table Lamp, Rustic Clay & Brass
Donna Table Lamp, Rustic Clay & Brass
Details
Donna is a substantial twenty-four inch table lamp with a rustic clay body and patina brass fittings. The clay is the point: a ceramic body has weight, irregularity and a matt surface that catches light softly, and it brings a handmade quality into a room that turned metal and moulded resin cannot replicate at any price.
At this height the lamp is not an accent, it is a piece of furniture. It suits a console in an entryway, a side table beside a sofa, or a chest of drawers in a bedroom, where its scale balances a large piece of furniture or a tall wall. Placed on something too small it will overwhelm the surface, so the supporting piece needs to be generous.
Patina brass fittings continue the unpolished, settled character of the clay rather than introducing a bright contrasting metal, which is what keeps the lamp coherent. Rustic clay is fired and finished by hand, so variation in tone, texture and surface between individual lamps is expected and characteristic. Site it away from table edges and out of reach of small children and pets, as a ceramic body of this size is heavy and will not survive a fall. Route the cable behind the supporting furniture rather than across the floor beside it.
